FAQ Guide / 1. Getting started

What does device database sync mean?

Dazzboard creates a metadata database from your device media to make managing your devices much faster. If you use Dazzboard for all media tranfers, your device database will always be up to date.

When you connect a device for the first time, you get the following dialog. If you wan't to use your device in Dazzboard, click 'Prepare device'. Otherwise click 'Cancel', you can always prepare it later.

After clicking 'Prepare device', Dazzboard will scan the device's files and process them. This can make the UI slow and unresponsive for a moment.

When the files are scanned, Dazzboard starts to process their metadata. During this, you can browse your device's media, but all files may not show up until processing is complete. Note: Browsing media during metadata processing is not recommended.

If your browser crashes or you disconnect your device while sync process is ongoing, you can reconnect the device later and continue the sync process. (Note: This may damage the database in some cases and all your media may not show up. To solve this kind of problem you need to rebuild the device database.)
